Studio Protocol – COVID

Dear Carson City Yoga Friends –

This is an informational page to let you know what we are doing in response to the new guidelines around COVID, and what to expect when you come in to the studio. Please read the following, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Returning to the studio is about more than just keeping things clean and sanitized. We have a great deal of love and respect for you and our community, and our return to the studio includes taking a look at who we have been, who we are now, and what we can do in the future to make a difference in the world.

We want you to know that all of our business decisions are guided by our founding ethics, which include the yogic principles of ahimsa (non-harming), satya (truthfulness) and aparigraha (non-grasping/not being greedy, which we interpret as generosity). We are and always have been here to support you in your yoga practice, and we keep this in mind with any changes we make in the studio.

What you can expect when you come in to the studio: (updated 6/24/20)

  • About Cleaning and Sanitation: We have always been mindful of cleanliness in the studio (another yogic principle is saucha, which means to cleanse, or purify). We will continue to be mindful of this. In particular, regarding the COVID situation:
    • We are using a CDC approved cleaner for all surfaces to clean and disinfect between classes. (We are happy to note that we found a CDC cleaner that IS non toxic, so no chemicals!)
    • All teachers will wash their hands before and after class, and we ask that you do the same. There is hand sanitizer available at the desk and in the studio.
    • We are working with building management to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the bathrooms, and to keep the heating and cooling vents clean.
    • We keep the windows open as much as possible during and between classes to allow for natural air circulation to refresh the studio.
  • About Mats and Props:
    • We have temporarily removed props from the studio, and ask that you bring your own.
    • Please bring your own mat to class, and if you have them, you may want to bring a blanket and blocks.
    • Please bring only what you need in to the studio – mat, props, and whatever you carry them in. If possible, leave other personal items at home, or lock them in your car. This will help minimize use of the storage cubbies.
    • (We do have a few used props available. Send us a message if you need a mat, blanket, or blocks.)
  • About Face Coverings:
    • As of 6/26, face coverings are required in all public places. Please plan to wear a face mask as you enter and exit the studio.
    • Keep your mask on until you are settled on your mat. Once on your mat, you may remove your mask if you choose.
    • Face coverings are not required during physical exercise when maintaining at least 6 foot distancing between people. Since our mat placements are more than 6 feet apart, you may choose to practice without your mask.
    • If you do choose to keep your mask on during practice, we ask that you reduce intensity, and keep your practice gentle.
    • Please put your mask back on at the end of class and keep it on as you exit the studio.
  • About Physical Distancing:
    • We will not be checking you in or taking payment at the desk. All registration and payments must be made online.
    • Please maintain appropriate distance as you enter the studio. Shoes will still be left outside as usual. If there is someone in the entry please wait until it is clear before entering. Proceed directly through to the studio.
    • We are limiting class size so that we can keep distance between the mats as currently required (advance registration required).
    • The studio floor has been marked for appropriate mat placement. Please only place your mat in marked spaces.
  • Should you attend in person?
    • If you are not feeling well, or if you have had a cough or fever in the last 2 weeks, please do not attend class in person.
    • If you have been exposed to anyone with the corona virus, or if you live with anyone who is sick or quarantined, please do not attend at this time.
    • If you have any of the underlying conditions that put you in a high risk category, we suggest that you do not attend classes in person at this time. Please attend our live stream classes instead.
    • If your allergies have you are coughing and sneezing frequently, we ask that you do not attend in person, and choose the live streaming instead. Thank you for understanding.
  • And We Love You…
    • As much as we all enjoy touch and greeting with hugs, for the time being lets share contact through our hearts more than our hands. We will greet you with great joy, and will be so happy to see you in person!
    • The teachers will not be providing any hands on assists or adjustments during classes. Please know that we still see you and connect with you through our eyes, ears, hearts, and voices.
    • And if you are still attending classes through live stream instead of coming to the studio, please know that we love you just as much through the distance as we do in person!

Thank you for taking the time to read through our guidelines. We are so glad you are here, and the truth is, we are here because you are.  Whatever happens in the next few months, we will continue to hold you steady in your yoga practice, to provide the space that serves you, and to support our community to the best of our ability.

~ May you be well, may you be happy, may you be at peace. ~
